Scar Tissue

Most people assume that once a cut heals or surgery is over, everything underneath returns back to normal. But scar tissue is more complex than we once believed, and for many people, it can quietly affect comfort, movement, and function long after the surface looks “fine.” Scar tissue treatment focuses on restoring healthy flow and mobility in the body, especially when scars create restriction, tightness, or lingering symptoms.

Scar tissue can form after surgery, injury, accidents, or even inflammation in the tissue. While it’s part of the body’s natural healing process, scar tissue can sometimes create adhesions, areas where layers of tissue become bound together and stop gliding smoothly. This can lead to pulling, stiffness, reduced range of motion, sensitivity, and even nerve-related symptoms.

In Chinese Medicine, scars may also be viewed as areas where the flow of Qi and circulation becomes disrupted. And from a physical standpoint, scar tissue can influence multiple systems, including lymphatic flow, blood circulation, nerves, and surrounding fascia.

How Scar Tissue Can Affect the Body

Even when a scar looks small on the outside, it can create deeper restriction in the tissue beneath it. Scar tissue may contribute to:

tightness or pulling sensations

decreased mobility or flexibility

discomfort or pain around the scar

numbness, tingling, or altered sensation

changes in posture or compensation patterns

lingering inflammation or sensitivity

reduced circulation or lymphatic flow in the area

For some people, these symptoms show up immediately. For others, the effects are subtle and build over time, especially when the scar is over the abdomen, spine, joints, or a high-movement area.

Why We Focus on Restoring Flow

Healthy tissue is designed to move, glide, and communicate freely. When scar tissue creates restriction, the body often compensates elsewhere. Over time, that compensation can create strain in surrounding muscles, joints, or nerves.

Supporting scar mobility and circulation helps the body regain a more normal pattern of movement and communication through the area, often reducing pain and improving comfort.

How FSM and Acupuncture Can Help

This clinic uses an integrative approach to scar support through Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) and acupuncture.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM):

FSM is a gentle, modern therapy that helps encourage healthy tissue response and support circulation and flow through restricted areas. Many clients find it especially helpful for stubborn scar restriction, adhesions, and post-surgical recovery patterns.

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture supports the body’s natural healing response and circulation while helping regulate the nervous system. It can be especially helpful when scar tissue symptoms include pain, tightness, or nerve irritation.

Together, these therapies can help the body “reconnect” through an area that has been restricted, supporting movement, comfort, and overall function.

Common Scars We See Respond Well to Support

Some of the most significant changes we’ve seen in clinic are with:

C-section scars and abdominal adhesions

post-operative scars, including orthopedic surgeries

back surgery scars where restriction affects surrounding nerves and tissues

scars from injury, falls, or trauma

In many cases, clients report instant noticeable changes in how the area feels, how they move, and how much sensation returns once restriction begins to release.

A Note on Numbness and Tingling

Some people experience symptoms like paresthesia, numbness, tingling, or altered sensation, after surgery or injury. When scar restriction plays a role, supporting the surrounding tissue and circulation can sometimes reduce these symptoms more quickly than expected.

Each person is different, but the goal is always the same: improve function, reduce restriction, and help the body feel more “open” and connected again.

If you have a scar from surgery or injury and you’ve noticed pain, pulling, tightness, reduced mobility, or numbness/tingling, you may benefit from gentle scar tissue support. If you’d like personalized care using acupuncture and Frequency Specific Microcurrent, you’re welcome to reach out or schedule an appointment.
